A matchbox is shown with a ribbon running lengthwise through it. The drawer of the box is opened from one side and then the other to show that he ribbon is threaded between the cover and the drawer. A spectator holds both ends of the ribbon to suspend the matchbox from the ribbon in midair. The box is then placed on a table with the spectator holding both ends of he ribbon down against the table. The magician proceeds to place an opaque handkerchief over the matchbox while the ends of the ribbon, held down by the spectator, remain in full view. The magician then reaches under the silk and the silk is whisked away. The ribbon is seen to have been penetrated through by the matchbox to free itself!
