A regular rope becomes stiff and straight, but collapses agian at the magician's command.
The rope is generally held looped and then extended out it's entire length with one end in each hand. When one end is let go the rope remains levitated straight and horizontal. The rope may also be held at the center and remain straight and horizontal.
