Three spectators are invited to join the performer.
Spectator #1 is asked to select a card from a deck. He then places the card in his pocket without revealing its identity, even to himself. A large slate, which is divided into two rows of three squares, is shown to the audience.
Spectator #2 is asked to think of someone's name. Specator #3 is told to concentrate his thoughts on a city of his choice. The performer now attempts to read Spectator #2's thoughts. He writes his prediction in the upper left-hand cornor of the slate and covers it with a colored card. He then askes Spectator #2 for the name he is thinking of and writes it directly below the covered square with the prediction.
Now the performer attempts to read Spectator #3's thoughts and writes a prediction in the upper middle square of the slate and covers it with a colored card. Spectator #3 now tells the name of the city, which the performer writes in the square directly below the covered prediction.
Spectator #1 is now asked to look at the card which was selected earlier and placed in his pocket. The performer writes his prediction in the upper right-hand square of the slate and covers it with a colored card. Spectator #1 then tells the name of the card to the performer who writes it in the square below the covered prediction.
The performer has recorded and covered his predictions in the upper row of the squares on the slate. The Specatators have indicated, one by one, their thoughts which have been written below the covered predictions.
The tension mounts! As each card is removed, it is revealed that the prediction matches the Spectator's recorded thoughts below!
