The performer shows a decorated cylinder with two holes in the middle of either side. A candle is passed through the cylinder and the spectators can see that the candle goes right through the center of the cylinder.
The candle is now removed and a long balloon is placed in the cylinder and inflated. The balloon projects out at both ends of the cylinder. The candle is then lit and passed into the hole at the bottom of the cylinder. It is now seen to emerge at the top of the cylinder still lit! The balloon is not broken even though the candle apparently penetrated right through it! The candle is than blown out and removed from the cylinder.
